Matt Yglesias had a post about this exact topic (of machinist shortages) several days ago. One employer claimed that due to the current 'skills shr3eagt&#o9; he might actually have to train some of his current employees, presumably by putting them through community college, in order to fill some of his company's job vacancies. He was pretty much just griping that he can't cost externalize education expenses onto his workers. Boo hoo.
