BIRCO is a core component of the Blast Overpressure Studies (BOS) effort, which responds to National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) provisions in FY18 and FY19 that mandate DOD conduct longitudinal medical studies on blast pressure exposure among Service members. The BOS program structure developed to facilitate this effort is comprised of five Lines of Inquiry, each led by an Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR): Surveillance, Weapon Systems, Exposure Environment, Blast Characterization, and Health & Performance. https://linkbos717.org/ BIRCO is the OPR for LOI 2: Weapon Systems.
